Case Studies

Yati’s execution platforms provide investors and business with all the resources and tools they need to create a systematic presence in a sector, without incurring the time and expense such an exercise would normally require.

Client: Large Indian conglomerate

Our Role: Strategy, Search and Due Diligence

Sector: Food processing

Country: India – UK

Client Challenge:

The Client is one of India’s largest frozen foods manufacturing companies. They were seeking to add to their food offering by acquiring a UK based food company, with a focus on taking their manufacturing technologies to India, whilst also helping create a European presence for the business

Approach

The Yati team was retained by the client to search for appropriate opportunities. We scanned over 800 companies in the UK which matched the clients criteria, reached out to over 40 of these which were particularly favourable, and engaged with the CXOs of over 10 of these companies for a potential direct investment transaction on behalf of our client.

Impact

We successfully completed a thorough search and connect process for our client within 3 months. We navigated the challenges of finding private data and using our networks to gain direct CXO access to companies in the UK, several of which were in the remote parts of the country

Client: UK Venture Capital Fund

Our Role: Investor and Partnership Search

Sector: Health Tech

Country: India – UK

Client Challenge:

The UK fund has various investments in HealthTech companies with interesting products that could potentially find a market in India. Creating a route for these companies to enter India successfully would be a significant validation of their product, and result in an enhanced valuation of the Fund’s portfolio.

Approach

Yati, along with our Indian HealthTech partner, evaluated the fund’s portfolio companies from the point of view of suitability for India. For shortlisted companies, we explored creating a distribution partnership in India. Market entry discussions involved regulatory checks, product modifications, calculating import pricing and pilot testing.

Impact

The VC fund now has a strong background in the India entry dynamics for its portfolio companies and is in the process of doing product trials with a series of them for India

Client: Indian Family Office

Our Role: Due Diligence

Sector: Deep Technology

Country: USA

Client Challenge:

The Indian investor was interested in accessing “deep tech” ideas that are not available in India: next generation technologies such as robotics, IOT, AI, AR/VR, cognitive analytics.

Approach

Through our network of seed funds and VC investors, we identified several such opportunities and worked with the investor to figure out the ones where he had a natural interest. For these shortlisted opportunities, we undertook our 360° due diligence, which includes understanding the sector landscape and competition, competitive strengths, opportunities and risks, the team and organization, go to market strategy, revenue pipeline, patents and IP, capital structure and the investor base, and financials.

Impact

The Client now has exposure to a VC fund in the US, with an investment pipeline of deep technology companies on the East and West Coast of the US – as well as a risk adjusted diversified portfolio base through its fund investment

Client: Large Indian Conglomerate

Our Role: Partner Search, Strategy, Due Diligence, Deal Structuring, Transaction Execution

Sector: Household Products

Country: India – UK

Client Challenge:

An Indian business group was looking to tie up with a major European household products manufacturer, with the aim of introducing their product range into India.

Approach

The Yati team helped with the initial introductions, built an agenda for discussions, developed market scenarios, and created alternative partnership structures. We facilitated the discussions on the shape of the partnership, and developed the contractual framework to underpin the relationship.

Impact

The Client now has a structured product manufacturing and distribution process in India. The technology tie-up with the European company allows them to bring this knowledge to India, and the European partner is working with the Client to create a joint-manufacturing facility for scaling up the volumes

Sector: Global Macro-economics

In early 2015, we felt that we could be seeing the beginnings of a rupturing of the Chinese credit bubble. China had seen unprecedented credit creation over the last 5 years, and the slowing momentum of the economy could result in significant disruptions in affiliated asset markets such as commodities and forex – an outcome that these markets had not started pricing in.

We built the detailed thesis for commodity focussed investors, and conceptualised the trades that could help hedge effectively against the commodity price collapse that followed in late 2015.
